Diamond Head requires every non-resident visitor to book entry in advance. Slots open 30 days out, they sell out, and there’s no walk-up option — arrive without a reservation and you’re turned away at the gate.

What to Expect on Your Ride
Check in at our shop on the ground floor of the Twin Fin, fill your water bottle, and roll out along Kalākaua toward the coast. The route runs seven miles round trip on a locally curated map loaded to your phone — past the Natatorium, along the gold coast, up to the Diamond Head lookout for the view back over Waikīkī.
At the crater you’ll park and lock the bikes and hike the 1.6-mile summit trail: tunnels, stairsets cut into the rock, and a view at the top that takes in the whole south shore. Coming down, the ride back through the Diamond Head neighborhood along Monsarrat Ave is the part people don’t expect to love. Fish tacos at South Shore Grill, an açaí bowl at Da Cove, or the fried rice at Diamond Head Market & Grill — then a flat cruise home.
The whole thing is yours for four hours. Nobody’s waiting on you and nobody’s rushing you.

Out along Kalākaua onto Diamond Head Road. Stop at the Natatorium and the lookout for the view back over Waikīkī.

Downhill most of the way. Food on Monsarrat — Diamond Head Market & Grill, South Shore Grill, Da Cove — then a flat cruise back.
Picking Your Start Time
Morning is the move. The crater has no shade and the trail bakes by midday. An 8 or 9am start means a cool climb and the best light for photos at the top.
Book by early afternoon at the latest. Diamond Head’s last entry is 4:30pm and the trail closes behind you. With four hours to work with, anything after about 1pm gets tight — we’ll help you pick a window when you book.
Allow more time than you think on the hike. The listed 1.6 miles is round trip, but the stairsets slow most people down. Ninety minutes is realistic; an hour is fast.

Beach Candy Waikīkī, ground floor of the Twin Fin at 2570 Kalākaua Ave, facing the ocean. Walk in — no parking needed, and no parking fee at the crater either, since you’re arriving on two wheels.
What to bring
- Closed-toe shoes — required, and the trail is no fun in sandals
- Comfortable clothes for riding and hiking
- A small backpack or fanny pack
- Sunscreen and a hat — there’s no shade on the trail
- Your phone, for the route map and the view from the top

No — it’s self-guided, which is the point. You get a curated route map on your phone and the day runs on your schedule. Stop for photos, take a long lunch on Monsarrat, spend an extra half hour at the summit. Nobody’s herding you.
Not really. Pedal-assist flattens the hills, so if you can ride a bike you can ride this. The route uses roads and bike lanes, so you should be comfortable riding in light traffic — the stretch along Diamond Head Road is the busiest part.
No. Your crater entry reservation is included and we book it with your tour. Non-residents can’t enter without one, they sell out, and there’s no walk-up option — so this is worth more than the five dollars it costs.
Priority E-Coast belt-drive electric beach cruisers. Upright, comfortable, and belt-driven, so there’s no greasy chain. Helmets are provided and required.
Twelve and up, and riders need to be able to operate an e-bike safely on the road. Anyone under 18 rides with an adult.
You don’t need to. Walk over from your hotel, or if you’re driving in, use the Twin Fin’s garage. Riding also skips the $10 crater parking fee and the parking reservation, which is its own small headache.
